Biosensics LEGSys Wearable

Lead Industrial Designer- Focus PDM 2013

PROJECT BRIEF

LEGSys is a medical wearable device outfitted with various sensors for quick and objective assessment of gait, gait steadiness, and dynamic balance during walking. LEGSys accurately measures the kinematics of lower body movement to calculate a wide range of gait parameters. I was tasked to lead the industrial design of the project, and create an updated enclosure for the product.

SKETCHES

Preliminary sketches were rapidly generated to determine form. Some considerations were a LED indicator, USB charging port, and strap that would be fitted on the user’s ankles. Clip-in attachments and modular device concepts were explored.

PROTOTYPE

An alpha prototype based on the final concept was manufactured. An accompanying mobile app was created as part of the product set.

FINAL DESIGN

The final design comprises an injection molded plastic enclosure with TPU overmolds. A cantilevered snap-fit feature allows for easy serviceability of the battery and circuit board. A slide switch powers the unit, which is indicated by an LED.
